TIMES ARE: MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY FROM 5 PM TILL 8 PM. INSTRUCTION SUPERVISED BY CERTIFIED U.S .SAILING INSTRUCTOR. FIRST COME FIRST SERVED!

Offspring of the Lake Eustis Youth Sailing Foundation

It is! If you are a part of the 'WHIRLWIND' Lake Eustis Junior Sailors!

Join our unique Junior Sailing Program, led by the Junior Sailors themselves, learning to go fast and to 'lead on and off the water'!
All participants are ages 14-18

The Program is completely run by the Junior Sailors!
Current Flag officers are:
Commodore: Ben Getchell; Vice Commodore: Bart Eckhart; Rear Commodore Jonathan Watson; Governor at Large: Darcey Jensen; treasurer: Melanie Ladley; Secretary: Caroline Ladley.

It is a great way to not only 'learn to sail' but to learn great leadership skills as well. Anyone from grades 8-12 can be a part of this wonderful youth sailing program. Also, there is absolutely no experience in sailing needed to join: Learn while you sail with an experienced junior skipper! Boats are available to all junior sailors; all boats were graciously donated by members of the Lake Eustis Sailing Club. Sailing can be an exciting life-long sport and activity! Sail training is provided for by Top Notch US Sailing Certified Coaches. The cost for participation is $40. - per month.

Youth

The Lake Eustis Youth Sailing Foundation’s goal is to promote the sport of sailing for the benefit of youth in our area in an environment which stresses safety, sportsmanship, honesty, loyalty, courage, self confidence, respect for authority, the environment and our community.

The Lake Eustis Youth Sailing Foundation offers: Year round sail training programs for junior sailors, age 8-18, weekends during the school months and sail training camps during the vacations.

Advanced junior sailors in our intermediate and advanced sailing classes, who love to sail and want to learn more about racing, are invited to join our JUNIOR RACING TEAM and will have the opportunity to participate with our Teams in several Junior Sailing Regattas throughout Florida.

All our junior sailing programs are supervised and coached by our "US Sailing" Certified Instructors. Safety is our first concern! That is why we follow all of the US Sailing's safety guidelines at the LEYSF's Junior Sailing Programs. All safety issues are constantly monitored and safety is the foremost priority during the sailing lessons. All participants in our Junior Sailing Programs must follow the LEYSF common sense conduct and safety rules, click here to download the rules

The Lake Eustis Sailing Club’s Junior Sailing Program offers a variety of sailing classes for young people:

A 10 session class for beginning junior sailors, age 8-14 will start on September 5, 2009. Times are: 1pm-4 pm on Saturdays. All graduates will receive a graduation plaque and certificate. To register: Click on registration form.

Graduation of this class is planned to be held on November 21st, 2009 on which date we are planning to have an OPEN HOUSE FOR JUNIOR SAILING, including junior sailing demonstrations by all program participants. This is always a very popular and fun event for juniors, their friends and all parents: Don’t miss out on this one!

 

 
Opti ClassJUNIOR SAILING, AGE 8-15 IN THE OPTI CLASS. Intermediate and Advanced Opti classes on Saturday mornings from 9:30am - 12:30pm. Fee is $40 per month. Click here for registration form. Info: Martin Zonnenberg 352-455-0780 (E) Mbpz@comcast.net
 

 Our ‘WHIRLWIND’ Youth Sailing Program for High School age juniors, age 14-18,  is led by the Juniors themselves and offers sail training in ‘double handed’ sailing dinghies (2 juniors sailing 1 boat). This very popular program also trains for Interscholastic High School Team Sailing competition.
This program is a member of the Nationwide Interscholastic High School Sailing Association. The ‘WHIRLWIND’ Sailing Teams have the opportunity to participate on a regular basis with other High School Sailing Teams throughout the South East and beyond and may lead to College Sailing scholarships. For this program, no experience is needed. New juniors can sign on at any time. Cost to join our year-round junior sailing programs is just $40 per month.

LaserLaser Sail Training Program, for ages 15 and up. Fee is $40 per month. Racing practice on all club race weekends and on Wednesdays after school hours. Andy Burdick credited his team for the Team 45 victory. He has the privilege of a consistent team of Peter Keck (who sails on
his A, E and in the old days C. Peter is a C Nationals and ILYA Champ in his own right), Coye Harrett (also on the
Burdick/Blanchard A scow and off to Edgewood College in Madison) and Meg Six (off to the UW Madison sailing team). Burdick's
race finishes demonstrate his continued skill in any class.
